FAQ ยท Website widget

Adding the chat widget to your website

The widget puts your fad on your own website as a floating chat button. Visitors tap it and chat without leaving your page. Setup is one script tag pasted before the closing body tag. This page covers how to add it on common platforms, how it looks, and what to check if it does not show.

How do I add the widget to my website?

Open your fad, tap Widget and copy the code. It is one script tag. Paste it into your site's HTML just before the closing </body> tag. Save and reload your site. A floating chat button appears in the corner of every page that has the code. Visitors tap it to chat with your fad.

Does it work on WordPress?

Yes. Paste the script tag in your theme's footer, just before </body>. You can do this from Appearance, then Theme File Editor, in footer.php, or by using an Insert Headers and Footers plugin and pasting the code in the footer box. Save, then open your site to see the chat button.

Does it work on Shopify?

Yes. In your Shopify admin, open your theme's code editor and find the theme.liquid file. Paste the script tag just before </body>, then save. The chat button appears on all pages of your store. Shoppers can ask about sizes, delivery or returns right there, without leaving the product page.

Which website builders does it work on?

Any site where you can paste an HTML script tag. That includes WordPress, Shopify, Google Sites and any plain HTML site made by a developer. On Google Sites, use Insert, then Embed, then 'by code', and paste the tag. Look for a custom code or footer code box on other builders. If you have a developer, just forward them the code.

Can I change the colour of the chat button?

Yes. The button uses your fad's accent colour. Pick one of the 9 colours or set your own custom colour in the Look tab, and the button on your site uses that colour. You can also choose a light or dark theme for the chat window there. No need to touch the code again.

Will the widget break my website's design?

No. The widget is built with Shadow DOM, which keeps its styles separate from your site. Your site's CSS cannot change the widget, and the widget cannot change your site. Your pages, menus and fonts stay exactly as they are. The only new thing is the small chat button in the corner.

The widget is not showing. What do I check?

First, check that the script tag is pasted just before the closing </body> tag and that you saved and published the page. Second, turn off any ad-blocker in your browser and reload, since some blockers hide chat buttons. Third, make sure your fad is not in draft, because a draft is seen only by you.

Does the widget work on mobile?

Yes. The chat button and the chat window work on phones and tablets. On a small screen the chat opens to fit the screen. Visitors can type, tap suggested questions and use the WhatsApp handoff just like on your fad.fyi page. Your fad works the same way everywhere it is shown.
