Choose a good address for your fad
Your address is the link people type, scan or tap to reach your fad. A good one is short, easy to say out loud and easy to spell. This guide shows how to check if a name is free, what to do when it is taken, and how to change it later.
- 1
Start with your real name
Use the name people already know. For a shop, use the shop name. For a coaching class, use the class name. For yourself, use your own name. People should guess the address without thinking too hard.
- 2
Keep it short and simple
Aim for one or two words written together. Avoid spellings that people get wrong. A short address fits on a visiting card and is easy to type from a poster across the room.
- 3
Check if it is free
On Step 1, Name and address, type your address. The page checks right away and tells you if it is free. If someone already has it, you will see a few suggestions. Pick one, or try another word.
- 4
Say it out loud
Read the full link aloud, like "fad dot fyi slash sharma tutorials". If it is hard to say on a phone call or in a WhatsApp voice note, make it shorter. The spoken test catches most bad names.
- 5
Change it later if you need to
Open your fad from fad.fyi/app and go to the Settings tab. You can change the address there. The old link redirects people to the new address for 30 days, so printed cards do not break at once.
- Match your Instagram or WhatsApp Business name so people find you everywhere.
- Avoid numbers that look like letters, such as 0 and o.
- Write the full link on paper. If it looks messy, shorten it.
Questions people ask
What if my name is taken?
The page shows suggestions right away. You can also add your city, your area or what you do, like sharmasweets or sharmasweetsnoida. Keep it easy to spell. Do not add random numbers at the end, because people forget them.
Can I change my address later?
Yes. Go to the Settings tab on your Manage page and set a new address. The old address redirects to the new one for 30 days. Use that time to update your QR codes, bio links and the website widget code, which uses your address.
Does the address affect the answers?
No. The address is only the link. Your fad answers from the sources you feed it, not from its name. But a clear address helps people trust the link when they see it on a poster or in a WhatsApp message.
