Add your fad chat button to WordPress
The website widget puts a small chat button on every page of your site. Visitors tap it and talk to your fad without leaving your website. On WordPress you paste one line of code before the closing body tag. This guide shows two ways to do it.
- 1
Copy your widget code
Open your fad from fad.fyi/app and go to the Embed tab. Copy the snippet. It looks like this: <script src="https://fad.fyi/widget.js" data-fad="yourname" async></script>, where yourname is your fad address.
- 2
Option A: Theme File Editor
In your WordPress admin, go to Appearance, then Theme File Editor. Open footer.php from the list of files. Find the line with </body>. Paste the snippet just above it and click Update File.
- 3
Option B: a plugin
If you do not see Theme File Editor, install a plugin such as "Insert Headers and Footers". Open its settings, paste the snippet in the footer box, and save. The plugin adds it to every page for you.
- 4
Check your website
Open your website in a new tab, or refresh it. A chat button should appear on the page. Tap it and ask a question. If you use a caching plugin, clear the cache first and check again.
- 5
Keep it after theme updates
If you used footer.php and later update or change your theme, the code can be lost. Check the button after any theme change. The plugin method survives theme updates, so it is safer in the long run.
- Use a child theme or the plugin method so updates do not remove your code.
- Test on your phone too, not only on the computer.
- The snippet has async, so your page does not wait for it.
Questions people ask
Will this work on WordPress.com free sites?
Some WordPress.com plans do not allow custom code or plugins, so the widget may not run there. It works on self-hosted WordPress and on plans that allow plugins. If you cannot add scripts, add a link to fad.fyi/yourname in your menu instead.
Can I put the button on only one page?
The snippet goes in the footer, so it shows on every page. If you want it on one page only, you can try adding the snippet in a Custom HTML block on that page instead. Place the block near the bottom of the page content.
Is the widget different from my fad?
It is the same fad. The widget simply opens your chat inside your website. Anything you teach or feed shows up both in the widget and at fad.fyi/yourname. You manage both from the same Manage page.
