Troubleshooting common problems
Most problems with a fad have a simple fix. This page lists the common ones, with the quickest fix first: wrong or missing answers, a file that is still being read, a sign-in gate that visitors did not expect, a widget that does not appear, and a QR code that does not scan. Start here before you ask for help.
My fad says it does not know the answer. Why?
Because the answer is not in its sources. A fad answers only from what you fed it. It does not guess. When it does not know, it says so and offers your WhatsApp or contact details. To fix it, open the Teach tab, find the question, and write the answer once. It becomes a Q&A pair and the fad will answer it next time.
My file shows Waiting. Is something wrong?
No. Waiting means the file is still being read. Larger files and PDFs with many pages take longer. Give it some time and refresh the page. If you need something to work right now, paste the key text as a text source, which is usable immediately. Once the file is done, your fad answers from it too.
Visitors see a sign-in page instead of the chat.
Your fad is set to private. A private fad shows a sign-in gate and lets in only the Google emails you added. If you want anyone to chat, change the visibility to unlisted or public in the Settings tab. If you meant to keep it private, add the visitor's Google email to your allowed list.
The chat button is not showing on my website.
Check two things. One, the script tag must be pasted just before the closing </body> tag, and the page must be saved and published. Two, ad-blockers sometimes hide chat buttons, so turn yours off and reload. If it still does not show, check that your fad is not a draft, since a draft is seen only by you.
My QR code does not scan.
Print it bigger. A QR code should be at least 2 cm wide to scan well. Also make sure it is printed clearly, with good contrast, and is not stretched or blurry. Try scanning it from your phone camera at a normal distance. If it still fails, open your fad, print the QR code again and test it before you make many copies.
The fad gave a wrong answer.
Teach it the right one. In the Teach tab you will see replies that visitors gave a thumbs down. Write the correct answer once and it becomes a Q&A pair, which the fad repeats exactly as written. Also check your sources: if an old price or an old timing is still in a file or text, update it.
I added my website link but the fad does not know things from my site.
A single link reads one page only. If you added just your home page, the fad knows only what is on that page. Use the Website tab in Feed it instead: it reads your home page and up to 25 linked pages, like Services, Prices, About and Contact, as one source. Give it a minute, then check the source shows Ready. You can also paste the key text directly.
I cannot sign in.
Make sure you are using Google sign-in, which is the only way to sign in today. If the Google window does not open, allow pop-ups for fad.fyi in your browser or try another browser. If you have several Google accounts, pick the one you used before, because your fads are tied to that account.
