Meet the fad: a small AI chatbot that answers only from your files, links and notes. Make one at your own address, for free, in about five minutes.
What is a fad?
A fad is your own AI chatbot. It lives at fad.fyi/yourname. You give it your files, your website pages, your notes or your product list, and it answers questions from them. It does not browse the internet and it does not guess. If it does not know, it says so.
You make it in about five minutes, on your phone if you like. Sign in with Google, pick a name and address, feed it something, choose how it looks and share the link. Your work saves as you go, so you can stop and come back whenever you want.
Who is it for?
It is for anyone who answers the same questions every day. A kirana store that gets asked about prices and delivery. A coaching class that gets asked about fees and timings. A clinic that gets asked about doctors and hours. A freelancer who gets asked about rates. A teacher who wants students to ask questions about the notes.
It is also for personal use. Feed it your rental agreement, your insurance papers or the school circulars that pile up in your inbox, and ask it questions in plain words. Set it to Private so only you, or the people you allow, can open it.
What can you feed it?
Files: PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, PowerPoint, TXT and Markdown, up to 25 MB each. Website page links, one page at a time. Text you paste in. Q&A pairs, which it answers exactly as you wrote them. And a product list as a CSV with the columns title, price, link, image, category and description.
Then you shape it. Pick a tone: friendly, professional, playful or concise. Pick languages: English, Hindi or Hinglish. Write a welcome message and three suggested questions. Add your WhatsApp number so the fad can hand over to you when someone wants a person, with the question already typed.
Share it anywhere
Every fad has a link, a QR code and a one-line website widget. Put the link in your Instagram bio. Print the QR code for your counter or menu, at least 2 cm wide. Paste the widget before the closing body tag on WordPress, Shopify or Google Sites, and a chat button appears on your site.
Choose who can see it. Public is open to all. Unlisted works only for people with the link. Private lets in only the email addresses you allow. You can change this any time from the Settings tab, and you can move to a new address later with a 30-day redirect from the old one.
Free to start
The Free plan gives you 3 fads, 10 sources per fad, files up to 25 MB and 500 messages per fad per day. The chat page shows a small "Start your own fad" line. That is the whole cost. A Pro plan is coming soon for people who need more.
Your data is yours. What you feed a fad is used only to answer questions on that fad. It is not used to train anything. You can delete a fad whenever you want from Settings, by typing its address to confirm, and you can change its visibility at any time.
How to start
Go to fad.fyi and sign in with Google. Pick a name and an address. Choose what the fad is for. Upload one file, or paste the text from your price list. Try it, then share the link. The first version does not have to be perfect. It only has to exist.
After a few days, open the Teach tab. It shows the questions your fad could not answer. Write the answer once and it becomes a Q&A pair. This is how a fad gets better: a little at a time, from real questions. We would love to see what you build.
