Prepare a PDF so your fad gives its best answers

Your fad reads your files to answer questions, so a clean file means clear answers. A good PDF has real text, clear headings and one topic per section. This guide shows how to fix a messy brochure, a scanned price list or a long course document before uploading it.

  1. 1

Check that the PDF has real text

Open the PDF and try to select a line with your finger or mouse. If you can select the words, it has real text. If not, it is a scanned image. Retype it, or export the original Word file as a PDF instead.

  2. 2

    Use clear headings

Put a heading before each topic: Fees, Timings, Address, Refund policy. Clear headings help your fad match a question to the right part of the file. In Word, use the Heading styles, then export as PDF.

  3. 3

Write full sentences, not only tables

A table like "Class 10 | 2500" is hard to read without context. Add a line under it: "Class 10 maths fees are โ‚น2,500 per month." Keep tables, but add one sentence for each important row.

  4. 4

    Remove what is not needed

Delete cover pages, old dates, expired offers and decorative pages. Old prices confuse the fad and your customers. One clean file of 10 pages beats a 60-page brochure with three old price lists.

  5. 5

    Keep it under 25 MB

Each file can be up to 25 MB. Big files are usually full of photos. Export with "smaller size" or "minimum size" in Word or your PDF tool. Text is tiny, so a text-only PDF is always well under the limit.

  6. 6

    Upload and test

Go to Feed it, choose the Files tab and upload the PDF. Then open Try it and ask five questions a customer would ask. If an answer is wrong, find that section in the PDF and rewrite it more clearly.

Tips
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV and TXT files work too. You do not need PDF.
  • Split a very long document into topics, one file each.
  • Put the date of the price list at the top so you know when to update it.

Questions people ask

My PDF is a scan from a photocopy. Will it work?

A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, and the fad may not be able to read the words. Retype the content in Word or a Google Doc and export it, or paste the text in the Text tab of Feed it. For a price list, a CSV in the Products tab is even better.

Should I upload one big file or many small ones?

Many small files, one topic each, are easier to update. When fees change, you replace only the fees file. The Free plan allows 10 sources per fad, so group small topics together if you have more than ten.

Does a Word file work as well as a PDF?

Yes. You can upload Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV, TXT and Markdown files, up to 25 MB each. If you keep your documents in Word, upload the Word file directly. It saves the export step and keeps the text clean.
